Countywide : $600,000 OKd for HIV, AIDS Patients

July 14, 1993|GEOFF BOUCHER

A $600,000 program to provide acute clinical care to Orange County residents who are HIV-positive or have AIDS was approved Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors.

The board voted unanimously to move forward with an agreement with the UC Board of Regents that allows a minimum of 200 visits per month for county residents to the various specialty clinics at UCI Medical Center in Orange.

Public Health Deputy Director Rick Greenwood said that the arrangement would help people who require greater outpatient care than is available through county clinics.

In particular, the new access will benefit HIV-positive patients whose symptoms do not classify them as having AIDS under the current medical definition, which in many cases means they do not qualify for Medi-Cal or other health-care assistance.
