About 110 health care workers and support staff members walked off the job at Kaiser Permanente's Panorama City and Woodland Hills medical centers Monday.

The purpose of the one-day, symbolic walkout, which involved less than 1% of Kaiser Permanente's 12,000 workers in Southern California, was to protest budget cuts that have increased workloads, said union spokeswoman Joyce Moscato.

A hospital spokeswoman said the walkout would have little effect. "We have managers that will be filling in those positions that may be vacant by striking employees," she said.

All the striking workers are members of the Service Employees International Union Local 399, Moscato said.
