Concerts, Other Events on Tap at L.A. Bach Festival

Six major concerts and a number of free, auxiliary events comprise the 1993 Los Angeles Bach Festival--its 60th incarnation--at First Congregational Church of Los Angeles.

Organist James Walker inaugurates the festival, which runs from Oct. 8-17, with a recital of Bach works on the historic organs in the sanctuary at First Congregational, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m.

The Pasadena Summer Youth Chamber Orchestra (PSYCO) plays Oct. 9 at 8 p.m., and the Cathedral Singers, a vocal octet, appears Oct. 10, also at 8 p.m.

Led by violinist Ralph Morrison--concertmaster of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra--the Bach an' All Chamber Ensemble plays music by Bach and his contemporaries, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m.

From Germany, the duo of cellist Gerhard Mantel and pianist Karen Owen play music by Bach, Stravinsky and Franck at the Oct. 16 concert.

The festival closes with a performance of Bach's Mass in B minor by the Festival Chorus and Orchestra, with soloists, conducted by Thomas Somerville, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m.
