Clear Choice Between Work and Home Life

August 01, 1993

Re "On the Daddy Track" (June 30): In their old age as they reflect upon their lives, many have been heard to say, "I wish I had spent more time with my family." Very few wish that they had spent more time at work.

Get a grip on reality. Where did you find your fathers? A father who makes a six-figure income, takes a cut and can still afford to have a full-time housekeeper (who doubles as a baby sitter) is not the norm. I'm sure many fathers (and mothers) would like to be in those shoes.

Couldn't you find a father who hasn't the luxury of downsizing a six-figure income? What about a father who drives a cab or a bus? A father who works in construction? Or the father who has a white-collar job but doesn't makes six figures?
