Bullfrogs Clinch Playoff Spot

August 02, 1993

The Bullfrogs remained unbeaten in Roller Hockey International play and clinched a playoff berth with a 9-6 victory over the San Diego Barracudas before an announced crowd of 10,971 Sunday at the Anaheim Arena.

Anaheim (9-0) is the RHI's only undefeated team. San Diego is 3-7.

"We don't want to limp into the playoffs because a stumble can lead to an early exit," Bullfrog Coach Chris McSorley said.

Joe Cook led the Anaheim attack, posting his second hat trick of the season. Devin Edgerton scored two first-quarter goals, the second with 58 seconds remaining in the quarter. Nineteen seconds later, Kevin Kerr scored a power-play goal to give Anaheim a 3-1 lead.

San Diego cut the Bullfrog lead to 4-3 on two goals by Daniel Shank, who had three goals and two assists.

But Bullfrog forward Savo Mitrovic scored with 8 minutes 52 seconds remaining in the quarter, and 14 seconds later, Cook scored his first goal to give Anaheim a 6-3 lead.

Kerr and Mitrovic assisted on Cook's second goal of the quarter to give Anaheim a 7-3 halftime lead.

Darren Perkins, Brad McCaughey, Kerr, and Mitrovic each had one goal and two assists for the Bullfrogs. Goalie Rob Laurie had 30 saves.

Max Middendorf had four assists for San Diego.

Anaheim begins a four-game road trip beginning Friday in San Diego. The Bullfrogs return Aug. 22 for the season finale against Oakland at the Anaheim Arena.
