10 Million Calls Jam Switchboard

August 04, 1993| Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Some 10 million telephone calls flooded the Capitol switchboard in two hours Tuesday night after President Clinton and Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole asked Americans to call their lawmakers regarding the Democratic deficit-reduction bill, an AT&T spokesman said.

Spokesman Herb Linnen said it could not be learned immediately how many of the calls actually got through to an operator.
