Lockheed Plans More Layoffs: The company's missiles and space unit in Sunnyvale said it plans to eliminate another 1,600 jobs by 1994 after slashing 1,600 so far this year. The unit currently employs about 19,800 people, including 15,100 in the San Francisco Bay Area. About half the cuts are layoffs; the rest come from attrition and early retirements. Lockheed said it needs fewer workers because of reduced U.S. spending for missiles, including its Trident II submarine weapons, and space programs.
