PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NFL : Aikman Gets OK for Full Practice

August 10, 1993|Associated Press

Troy Aikman, quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, has the medical go-ahead to resume practicing in pads and play in next Saturday's exhibition against the Raiders.

However, Coach Jimmy Johnson continues to indicate that he wants Aikman on the sidelines until the final exhibition, Aug. 27 against the Chicago Bears.

Aikman has been working out without pads recovering from back surgery.

"I'm ready to roll," Aikman said after watching his team play to a 13-13 tie with the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

While the Cowboys were in London for the American Bowl, Aikman flew to Los Angeles for a checkup by Robert Watkins, who performed surgery on Aikman's herniated disk June 19. Watkins gave Aikman clearance to resume workouts.

The New York Giants said that unsigned defensive lineman Mike Fox has until Friday to report or he will not be eligible for the first regular-season game.
