He also had been president of the Newport Board of Realtors and national president of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage from 1977 until he retired in 1983.

Farnsworth was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and graduated from the University of Michigan in the late 1930s, where he majored in business.

He was a member of a high school national championship swimming team and also swam for the University of Michigan.

An avid angler, he spent many days fishing the waters of the Channel Islands and other parts of the world.

Family members said there will be a private memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks that contributions be sent to Visiting Nurses Assn. Hospice Program of Orange County, P.O. Box 1129, Orange 92668.
