Altadena : Iamurri Named to Council

August 12, 1993

James Iamurri, 52, a governmental relations consultant and private investigator, will take the place of Oscar Werner on the Altadena Town Council. Werner, 86, died Aug. 1 of cancer.

Werner, a retired architect who lived in Altadena for 50 years, was reelected in May for a fifth term to represent Census Tract 4613 in the southeastern portion of town. He defeated Iamurri 46 votes to 2.

Under town bylaws, Iamurri was designated the alternate to Werner and Nancy Machee, the tract's other representative.

"I regret Oscar's passing. I worked with him for years. He was dedicated to this community," said Iamurri, a former deputy for Supervisor Mike Antonovich.

He said his opposition to Werner last May was a mistake. Iamurri said he had been told that Werner was not running again, but learned later that the council member was seeking reelection. Iamurri said he decided not to campaign, and even voted for his opponent.

The Altadena Town Council has no taxing or spending powers, but acts as an advisory body to the County Board of Supervisors on issues such as planning, parks and libraries in Altadena.
