Jeff George won't start when in the Indianapolis Colts' opener. Coach Ted Marchibroda, who hasn't heard from his quarterback since he failed to report to camp, announced Jack Trudeau will start.

Vaughn Dunbar, the Saints' top rusher last season, and cornerback Clayton Holmes of the Dallas Cowboys each suffered torn anterior cruciate ligaments in their right knees Saturday and will be sidelined for the season. . . . San Francisco 49er right tackle Harris Barton will be out for about four weeks because of a knee injury he suffered during a drill. Keith DeLong, 49er linebacker, ended a monthlong holdout, reaching a three-year agreement.
