A 31-year-old man is facing a federal trial on charges he robbed three Ventura County bank branches and one in Santa Barbara last year, FBI agents said.
Peter Mendez Lopez of Ventura was indicted on the bank robbery charges Friday by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles. If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 20 years in jail and a $20,000 fine.
Lopez is accused of robbing the Security Pacific Bank at 507 E. Main St. in Ventura on Aug. 20, the American Commercial Bank at 300 S. Mills Road in Ventura on Aug. 24, the Wells Fargo Bank at 460 Esplanade Drive in Oxnard on Sept. 18, and the Bank of America at 3790 State St. in Santa Barbara on Sept. 21, the FBI said.
Police in San Diego arrested Lopez Jan. 18 as part of an auto theft investigation. After his arrest, police discovered a federal warrant for Lopez's arrest in connection with the Aug. 20 robbery in Ventura.
