Norwalk : Free Vaccinations--and a Way to Ease the Pain

August 26, 1993

Area children can get free vaccinations Saturday--along with ice cream, haircuts and school supplies to make the experience less painful.

Doctors and nurses will immunize children Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Edmondson Elementary School, 15121 S. Grayland Ave., Norwalk.

The program is sponsored by Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center and the county health department. Kaiser officials estimated that only half of California's children are on schedule with their vaccination shots. By age 2, a child should have received vaccinations against diseases such as measles, mumps and whooping cough.

Kaiser officials said they want parents to bring any available immunization records along with their children. After receiving their shots, children can get free haircuts from Cerritos College cosmetology students. Children also will receive gifts such as crayons, folders, notebooks, pens, pencils, modeling clay, toothbrushes and songbooks.
