Rockwell to Contract Out Payroll and Benefits Services : Streamlining: About 40 jobs are affected by move to save money and improve administration.

August 27, 1993

SEAL BEACH — Rockwell International Corp. said Thursday it will hire a company to handle its compensation and benefits administration, throwing into uncertainty the fates of about 42 in-house employees.

Vice President Joel Stone said that over the next two years Rockwell will shift the task of providing benefits and support services to Rockwell employees and retirees. The move will save money and improve service to benefit recipients, he said.

"The number of people who will be affected is unclear," Stone said. Those employees, he said, may apply for other jobs within the corporation or with the company that takes over the tasks.

Rockwell decided last week to sign a final contract, Stone said. He would not identify the company to be hired.

"This does not come as a surprise to our people," he said. "We told them last year we would be looking at this possibility, and they served on the committee that studied the feasibility of it."
