Kero Sarkis Antoyan; Painter and Muralist

Kero Sarkis Antoyan, oil painter and muralist also known for his stained-glass windows, has died at the age of 81.

Antoyan, a native of Turkey who lived in Los Angeles, died Aug. 19 of an apparent heart attack while visiting his son, Ares, in Lyon, France.

He had exhibited widely throughout the United States, France and Armenia, and his paintings are in collections at the Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena, the Laguna Beach Museum and the Yerevan State Museum, and several Armenian churches.

Antoyan's other works include murals and stained-glass windows at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park in West Covina, and at Alex Pilibos Armenian Parochial School and St. Charles Armenian Apostolic Church in Hollywood.

The artist studied and later taught at Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

In addition to his son, Antoyan is survived by a daughter, Tamar Dodenhoff of Toronto.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park Hollywood Hills.
