Paramount : School Board to Increase Fees at Child-Care Center

September 02, 1993

The Paramount school board has increased fees by as much as one-third for child-care programs at the Jackson Child Development Center to make the services self-supporting. The new fees go into effect when school starts Tuesday.

In past years, the program had relied on a subsidy from the school district's general fund, but the district can no longer make the money available, officials said. The preschool program had been losing $16,000 a year, Assistant Supt. Julie Mayer said.

Weekly fees for preschoolers who stay at the center all day will rise from $65 to $80. The weekly fees for children who stay for only part of the day will rise from $35 to $40. For parents who pay on a daily basis, the fee will increase from $12 to $16. Parents of children who stay half a day will be charged $1 more, paying $8 instead of $7.

The center is at the Paramount Adult School, 8535 Contreras Ave.
