FAST FACT

Glendale has not been shut out since Mt. San Antonio did it, 22-0, in a nonconference game in 1982, a streak of 114 games.

OUTLOOK

A well-balanced offense (2,555 yards rushing, 2,214 yards passing) helped Glendale set a school single-season record with 430 points. They have the firepower again with a backfield that features Rucker and Casey, a former All-City tailback at Sylmar High. Rucker, an All-WSC selection, rushed for 1,040 yards and 17 touchdowns in the regular season. Casey sat out last season after playing at Western New Mexico in 1991. But the key will be Ray, who takes over at quarterback. "We anticipate great things from him," Cicuto said.

FAST FACT

The Raiders have won nine or more games each of the past five seasons and have played in five consecutive bowl games.

OUTLOOK

With Preston running the pro-set offense and all-conference Carrillo in the backfield, the Raiders seem primed for another successful season. Preston passed for 367 yards and four touchdowns in limited regular-season action in '92 and Carrillo was the second-leading rusher in the WSC with 1,103 yards. But Bittner is concerned about the defense. "We lost practically the whole secondary (to graduation)," he said. All-conference free safety Kenyon Lewis and cornerback Lance Thomas graduated.

FAST FACT

The Brahmas broke even last season after forfeiting six of seven victories and one tie in 1991 for using an ineligible player.

OUTLOOK

Pierce ranked fifth in team defense among conference teams last season and Norton anticipates an equal or better showing in that department in '93. "I think our defense will be a force," he said. "We have some real good players in all the areas of our defense." Seven defensive starters return for the Brahmas, including all-conference players Getz and Fix. Only two starters are back on offense--Olivas and Doyle--and Norton hopes for rapid improvment. players. Delmatoff, from Hart High, and Williams, from Palmdale, will battle for quarterback job.
