Northridge Splits Volleyball Matches

September 04, 1993

The Cal State Northridge women's volleyball team continues to struggle offensively, but the Matadors split two matches in the Arizona State tournament Friday at Tempe, Ariz.

Northridge (1-2) lost to Arizona State, 15-8, 15-6, 15-4, in its first match of the five-team round-robin tournament before defeating Northern Arizona, 15-12, 15-9, 15-8.

The Matadors, who dropped their season opener to the University of San Diego in four games Wednesday night, will play Cal State Sacramento (0-2 in tournament play) at 11 this morning, followed by a 3 p.m. match against Santa Clara (2-0).

Juniors Ana Kristich and Aimee Stone each had eight kills for Northridge against Northern Arizona. Kristich also contributed eight blocks while Stone and Heather Anderson each added a team-high 11 digs.

The Matadors swept the Lumberjacks despite a lackluster .121 hitting percentage, which still was better than their .000 mark against Arizona State.
