September 05, 1993

Eleven Los Angeles Police Department officers will be honored for heroism Wednesday at the 34th annual Medal of Valor Awards luncheon at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel, 404 S. Figueroa St.

Sponsored by the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, the Medal of Valor is the department's highest award and signifies bravery "above and beyond the call of duty."

This year's award recipients are:

* Mark Jackson, Steve Griffin and Andrew Castro from the Southeast Division,

* Edward E. Hale from the Southwest Division; Joseph Hamilton of the West Bureau,

* Dennis Hinman and Willard Howard of the Devonshire Division,

* Brian Liddy, Daniel Nee and Lisa Phillips of the 77th Street Division,

* John Puis of Metropolitan Division.

The 77th Street and Metropolitan officers are being recognized for their actions in helping victims, firefighters and fellow officers during last year's riots.

Police Chief Willie L. Williams will present the medals as accounts of the officers' courageous acts are narrated by actor Gerald McRaney.

Tickets for the noon ceremony are $60 per person and $30 for Los Angeles police officers.
