Hill Among Five Aggies Suspended

September 11, 1993|Associated Press

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. — The NCAA notified Texas A&M on Friday that running back Greg Hill was suspended for five games and four other players received bans from two games to a year for accepting money for summer work they didn't perform.

Coach R.C. Slocum, his staff and the school itself were spared from punishment, at least for the time being. Janet Justus, the NCAA's director of eligibility, said that Slocum and school administrators have not yet been cleared of wrongdoing.

The NCAA said in a statement that linebacker Jessie Cox is suspended for the season, with suspensions of four games for wide receiver Brian Mitchell, three games for cornerback William Mitchell and two games for offensive lineman James Brooks.

The suspensions are retroactive to Texas A&M's 24-0 victory over Louisiana State last Saturday.
