In other nonleague openers:

Canyon 61, Castle Park 7--Senior running backs Ed Williams and Freddie Polito combined for 262 yards rushing and five touchdowns and the Cowboy defense limited Castle Park to 97 total yards. Williams rushed for 185 yards and two scores in 17 carries. Polito, a transfer from Thousand Oaks, had 14 carries for 77 yards and three touchdowns, including a two-yard plunge moments before halftime which gave Canyon a 34-7 lead.

Castle Park took an early 7-6 lead when quarterback Darren Ortiz threw a nine-yard scoring pass to Jesus Delgado to cap a 19-yard drive following a turnover.

Canyon responded with four touchdowns before halftime. Canyon capitalized on interceptions by John Ortiz, Jim Robles and Mark Uda, and blocked punts by Mike Leary and Joe Robles. The Robles brothers also are transfers from Thousand Oaks.

Leary and Tim Fitzgerald caught scoring passes from quarterback Sean Connelly.
