COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Foster, Mote Finish 1-2 in Fresno Cross-Country

Kim Foster and Lisa Mote finished first and second in the women's community college race to lead Golden West to a third-place finish in the Fresno Invitational cross-country meet at Woodward Park.

Foster covered the 5,000 meters in 19 minutes 30 seconds, eight seconds ahead of Mote.

Rancho Santiago finished fifth in the women's race.

In the men's competition, Fidel Zavala covered four miles in 20:37 to finish second and lead Rancho Santiago to a runner-up finish.

Francisco Vasquez was 11th for Rancho Santiago. Golden West finished 17th.

In the Whittier Invitational cross-country meet:

The Irvine Valley women finished third and the men seventh at Ralph B. Clark Park. Irvine Valley's women scored 92 points to 62 for champion Claremont Mudd Scripps.

The men scored 222 points. Azusa Pacific's A and B teams finished first and second with 22 and 89 points.

In nonleague women's soccer:

Glendale (Ariz.) 4, Irvine Valley 3--Down by two goals at the end of the first half, visiting Glendale scored four times in the second. Jeff Rynders led the Lasers (1-1) with two goals. Randy Soderman and Nick Seward each scored twice for Glendale (3-0).

In the Moorpark women's soccer tournament:

Orange Coast wins--Goalie Rebecca Comstock recorded four shutouts and allowed only one goal in five shortened games as Orange Coast won the title in the round-robin tournament. Jenna Biefeld scored 3 goals and Danae Fielder added two more to lead the scoring for Orange Coast.

Orange Coast (4-1) defeated Fresno City, 1-0, in its final match. The Pirates' only loss was 1-0 to Moorpark.

In the San Diego Mesa water polo tournament:

Orange Coast wins championship--Orange Coast, which defeated all three opponents for first place in the round-robin tournament, was led by Daniel Mathot who had 10 goals combined in the three games.
