MISSION VIEJO : College's Student Paper to Be Honored

September 21, 1993|ANNA CEKOLA

Saddleback College's student newspaper, the Lariat, will be inducted into the Associated Collegiate Press Hall of Fame in the spring, campus officials have announced.

The newspaper recently received its 10th All-American rating from the Associated Collegiate Press, which qualified it for induction into the Hall of Fame. An All-American rating is a mark of excellence awarded to college newspapers based on a review of six issues of the newspaper produced during a specific semester.

"What this award represents is consistency in our program," Lariat adviser Mike Reed said. "That is what we strive for."

The Associated Collegiate Press, established in 1921, is the largest and oldest membership association for college student media. In 1987, it established the Hall of Fame for student publications that have earned 10 All-American ratings within an 11-year span.

Only 26 publications from four-year and two-year colleges have been inducted into the Hall of Fame since its establishment.
