La Habra Heights : School District Approves Sale of Unused Land

September 23, 1993

School officials in La Habra Heights have agreed to sell 10 acres of land once designated as an elementary school site.

Lowell Joint School District trustees have decided to accept an offer of $667,000 from John Smith, a businessman who indicated he wants to build a house on the land, officials said.

The site at West and El Travesia roads was purchased by the district in the 1960s when enrollment was rising, Supt. Ronald T. Randolph said. But enrollment began to decline in 1969. Randolph said the district had another buyer for the property eight years ago, but that deal fell through.

The district also is trying to sell Hacienda School, another 10-acre site that straddles the Los Angeles and Orange County line, the superintendent said.

The city of La Habra Heights has offered to buy five acres of the land for an estimated $1.7 million, but that sale is still pending.
