COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NATION : Collins Replaces Sacca at Penn State

September 24, 1993| Associated Press

Kerry Collins will start at quarterback for Penn State when the No. 9 Nittany Lions play host to unbeaten Rutgers on Saturday at State College, Pa., Coach Joe Paterno said.

Collins replaces John Sacca, who started Penn State's first three games but was benched after an ineffective first quarter against Iowa last Saturday in a 31-0 victory. Sacca later complained about getting the hook so early and threatened to quit school.

Nine Bowling Green players, including six starters, were suspended from the team this week and will miss Saturday's game against Navy, the campus newspaper said. No reason for the suspension was given and school officials declined comment. Steve Barr, the university's sports information director, said the athletic department planned to issue a statement.
