Senior tailback Jeff Williams scored two touchdowns in the second half to help San Pedro rally from a one-point halftime deficit and defeat Venice, 35-15, in a nonleague football game Thursday night at Daniels Field.

Williams, who rushed for 69 yards in 13 carries, scored on a one-yard run in the third quarter to give the Pirates the lead for good. A two-point conversion pass from quarterback Chris Pappas to tight end Steve Sullivan made the score 22-15.

San Pedro (3-0) scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter on a four-yard run by Williams and an 18-yard pass from Pappas to Sullivan. Pappas completed six of 10 passes for 96 yards and two TDs, and fullback Lindsey Moore led Pirate rushers with 121 yards in 11 carries.

Venice (2-1) was hurt in the third quarter when tailback Larry Atkins left the game with a leg injury. Atkins rushed for 146 yards and scored two TDs to give the Gondoliers a 15-14 halftime lead.

Second-half interceptions by linebacker Gary Sloan and defensive back Bryan Castaneda helped San Pedro shut out Venice in the second half.
