The Princeville Hotel, closed since Hurricane Iniki screamed across Kauai a year ago, plans to reopen Oct. 15, joining the Hyatt Regency Kauai as the second major resort to resume operations.
It will be several more months before the Westin Kauai at Kauai Lagoons (the island's largest employer) and the Coco Palms Resort are ready for business.
A Westin spokeswoman said golf and tennis facilities are available, and the hotel now plans to reopen June 1, 1994. Coco Palms controller and general manager Tom King said that facility won't open until the end of 1994.
The Princeville is the first hotel to reopen on Kauai's North Shore, but its rates are nevertheless pricey: A "special package" from Oct. 15 through April 30, 1994, goes for $199 per person per night, based on double occupancy, but includes unlimited golf.
Hawaiian Airlines is offering a "Fly Free to Kauai" fare through Dec. 16. Travelers can fly from LAX through to Kauai for the same price they would pay just to fly to Honolulu: $369.
United Airlines, in conjunction with Aloha Airlines, also is offering one-stop service between LAX and Kauai for $379 through Dec. 16.
