Two graduates of Santa Monica High School will be inducted into its Hall of Fame and honored at 10:30 a.m. Friday at a pep rally followed by coffee in the Roberts Art Gallery. They and other Hall-of-Famers will be introduced during half-time ceremonies at the football game that night.
This year's honorees are Barry Boehm of Santa Monica, class of '53, and Rear Adm. William Moffitt of Massachusetts and Florida, class of '41.
Boehm, whose wife and two daughters also attended Santa Monica High, earned degrees in math from Harvard and UCLA. He has been chief scientist for TRW's defense systems group, director of the information science and technology office of the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency, and director of software and computer technology for the U.S. secretary of defense. He has taught at UCLA and USC and has written five books.
Moffitt, who was educated at USC, Tufts and the University of Maryland, joined the Navy the year after he graduated and served in it for more than three decades. He directed the Navy's space programs and national reconnaissance. He was also chairman and founder of the Miami Air Show.
