When Indiana Coach Bob Knight visited Jacque Vaughn last year, hoping to persuade the star point guard from Pasadena Muir High to come to Indiana, neither could have foreseen what a cold December night in Lawrence, Kan., would bring.
Vaughn ended up picking Kansas over the Hoosiers, and on Wednesday night he made a three-point shot with less than a second to play in overtime, lifting the sixth-ranked Jayhawks to an 86-83 victory over Knight and 12th-ranked Indiana.
"I gave a head fake," Vaughn said of the final shot. "I was just trying to draw a foul. (Todd) Leary retreated enough for me to get my legs under me and get up in the air and it went in."
Vaughn has shown signs of possible stardom during his 12 games with Kansas (11-1). He has become the starter at point guard.
