Timken Co. to Eliminate 2,200 Jobs: The manufacturer of specialty bearings and steels said it plans to eliminate 14% of its worldwide work force over the next four years. It said the cuts are part of an effort to improve competitiveness. Timken spokesman Keith Price said no plants will be closed. The Canton, Ohio-based company plans most of the cuts through retirements, attrition and by decreasing the number of part-time workers, he said, and expects to lay off 900 people.
