The Region : Homeowners Warned of Fake Plumbing Inspectors

January 06, 1994

Reports of people posing as water company workers have prompted the San Gabriel Valley Water Co. to alert its 45,000 customers in Whittier, Montebello, Hacienda Heights and the San Gabriel Valley to beware of anyone asking to enter a home to inspect the plumbing.

The alert followed complaints last year about thefts by people who represented themselves as water company employees to enter houses.

The El Monte-based utility is notifying its customers that normally a water company employee would not ask to enter a house. This would happen only if a customer had previously contacted the company. Company officials also said any questions about whether someone is an employee can be directed to the customer service office at (818) 448-6183.
