January 16, 1994|SEAN WATERS | SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Washington High's Surviving Seven nearly pulled off the biggest upset of the year before losing to Banning, 70-65, in triple overtime Friday.

The seven players, who began the season as reserves, moved into starting roles when six Generals, including four starters, were suspended for three games for an unspecified incident. The other General starter was out sick with the flu.

Pickett scored 44 points for Washington, including the final two points in the fourth quarter and the first two overtimes.
