TUSTIN : New Civic Center to Be Dedicated Friday

January 20, 1994|BERT ELJERA

The new Civic Center, which was built at a cost of more than $11 million, will be dedicated Friday, although repair work on the Community Center floor will continue.

Ceremonies begin at 4 p.m. at 300 Centennial Way. Mayor Jim Potts and other members of the City Council will participate. There will be entertainment, and refreshments will be served.

Construction and renovation of the Civic Center started in August, 1991, and was completed two years later. The project was financed by the Community Redevelopment Agency and developer fees from new construction in East Tustin.

The complex consists of City Hall, the Police Department, council chambers, the Community Center and an adjacent 59,000-square-foot parking structure.

On Monday, the council, acting as the Community Redevelopment Agency, unanimously approved spending $27,000 to repair the Community Center's vinyl flooring, which has been bubbling because of trapped moisture.

The contract for the repairs has been put out to bid. The work will include removing the existing flooring and rubber base and installing new flooring. Repairs could be completed by April, officials said.
