Chevalier Sets Scoring Record, Matadors Win

March 04, 1994|MIKE HISERMAN

Andre Chevalier got his record.

Cal State Northridge got its victory, 95-87, over San Diego State Thursday night in a nonconference basketball game before 1,339 at Peterson Gym.

"My last game couldn't have been better," said Chevalier, a six-foot senior. "Everything was perfect."

Chevalier, a four-year starter, needed 29 points to break the Northridge career scoring record of 1,301 points set by Jim Malkin from 1959-62.

A tall order for a player whose previous high was 28 points.

But he got it. And more, scoring 38 points, including 26 in the second half as Northridge (8-18) ended its season with its highest point total of the season. The Aztecs fell to 10-15.

Chevalier broke the record on a free throw that completed a three-point play with 7:08 left.
