OUTLOOK

The Argonauts have gone 31-15-1 the past two seasons, but the party appears to be over for Rawls. Five players return from last season's team and only Moreno (7-4, 2.47 ERA) and Lewis (.309, 12 RBIs) were starters. Rawls said he probably will start five sophomores. "The team we had the past three years started as sophomores," Rawls said. "So we're definitely trying to build something here for the future. I just wish we had a big-time pitcher waiting in the wings, like Kennedy and La Quinta, to make the transition easier, but we don't." Rawls said his inexperienced team will have to rely on consistency, tough defense and timely hitting. "Without a dominant pitcher, we'll have to play mistake-free baseball," he said. Since most of his players were on junior varsity and freshman teams last year, Rawls said he doesn't know what to expect from his offense. "The hitting is all untested," he said. "I have no idea what they'll do."
