RECORD RACK

In Brief

March 06, 1994|STEVE HOCHMAN

* 1/2 Enigma, "The Cross of Changes," Charisma/Virgin. After the left-field success of the Gregorian-chants-with-a-beat of the 1992 Enigma debut, German studio wizard Michael Cretu milks the formula for all it's worth on the follow-up, cramming in just about every ethnicity, era and quasi-spiritual platitude he can. But instead of the tastily mysterious effect of the last one, this just tastes like global-village mush.

New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
