MARKETING / MEDIA : A Super Bowl Star Detours to Disneyland on Info Superhighway

March 10, 1994|Anne Michaud / Times staff writer

Emmitt Smith, star running back for the Dallas Cowboys, found that the road from the Super Bowl leads to the information superhighway.

The morning after the Cowboys' victory over the Buffalo Bills, Smith announced in commercials aired during the "Today" show and "Good Morning America," "I'm going to Disneyland!"

The overnight turnaround was made possible by fiber-optic splitting. Western International Media's Spot Link division edited the Smith commercial overnight for the theme park and transmitted it to the TV networks using fiber-optics.
