Hard-throwing right handers Jon Ward (Cal State Fullerton) and Ryan Brannan (Miami) have led the Oilers in the past two seasons, and now it's Dillard's turn. Dillard doesn't fit the profile physically--he pitches left-handed and is 6-foot-2, 175 pounds--but Dodd hopes Dillard can lead the staff. "He's not a strikeout pitcher, but we don't want him to try to strike everybody out," Dodd said. "We want him to get the ball to guys who will make the plays for us." One of those players is shortstop Daedelow, a three-year starter and first-team all-league selection. Center fielder Yadrick, who played running back for the football team, is also a key defensive player. "I'm a little nervous about this season," Dodd said. "We have a good little ball club, but the league is so strong. But we always know that in a 14-game league season, the most talented team may not always win it."
