Whistle-Blower Wins $223,000 Judgment: Brian Hyatt, the Northrop engineer who raised the first fraud allegations against Northrop in 1986, won the judgment in federal court for wrongful termination. In October, 1986, Hyatt filed a federal whistle-blower suit that claimed Northrop had cheated the Air Force on the guidance system for the MX missile and that he was wrongfully fired by the company. Hyatt's charges languished in the courts for years, and eventually his charges that Northrop defrauded the government were dismissed. The wrongful-termination claims came to trial in January. Northrop said it might appeal.
