SIMI VALLEY : Approval Expected for New Contract

March 26, 1994|SCOTT HADLY

A new contract that would save the Simi Valley Police Department more than $30,000 in service fees for the department's radios and other communication systems is expected to be approved Monday by the Simi Valley City Council.

The city staff is recommending that the contract be awarded to Motorola, which underbid 17 other companies with an offer to do the service for about $125,000 over the next two years.

Harris Communications, which has held the contract since 1988, said it was unable to compete with Motorola's bid.

As part of the contract, Motorola would respond to all emergency repairs within two hours, or risk losing the contract.

If the City Council approves the contract, the $30,000 in savings will be returned to the city's general fund. The contract will run from April 1, 1994, through March 31, 1996.
