Developing Nations Received 37% of Foreign Investment in 1993: Emerging economies, particularly in the dynamic regions of Asia and Latin America, took a record amount of all foreign direct investment last year, the United Nations reported. The U.N. Conference on Trade and Development said direct investment in developing countries--mainly from transnational corporations into local affiliates--rose to $70 billion last year from $50 billion, or 31% of total foreign direct investment, in 1992. Asia was the largest recipient region for direct investment. Flows to Latin America and the Caribbean have increased since the late 1980s, according to the report, but Africa's share has fallen.
