BRIEFLY : Education: UCLA Gets 6 Fellowships

Six scholars from UCLA have won John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fellowships for 1994, giving UCLA--along with Harvard University--the second-highest number of Guggenheim fellowships this year.

UC Berkeley led the way with seven fellowships, which go to staff and faculty who have shown distinguished achievement.

The UCLA recipients were Prof. Joyce Appleby, history department; Prof. Giorgio Buccellati, department of Near Eastern languages and cultures; Prof. William A.V. Clark, geography department; Meg Cranston, artist, lecturer in the art department at UCLA and faculty member of the Otis Art Institute; Mike Rose, literacy researcher in UCLA writing programs; Mary A. Rouse, managing editor of Viator, Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies.
