Bobbitt Denies He Attacked His Fiancee

LAS VEGAS — John Wayne Bobbitt pleaded innocent Friday to a misdemeanor count of domestic battery, hours after he was arrested for allegedly shoving his fiancee into a wall during an argument.

Bobbitt--the man who gained international attention when his wife severed his penis--was released on $7,100 bail pending a June 3 hearing.

"I believe this is just a huge misunderstanding," he said in a statement released by Aaron Gordon, a spokesman for both Bobbitt and his 21-year-old fiancee.

According to a police report, Bobbitt, 26, and Kristina Elliott were involved "in a verbal argument before Bobbitt grabbed her right forearm, causing a bruise, then shoved her into a wall, causing a bruise."

He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or another substance when he was arrested about 3 a.m., the report said.

Elliott was "more emotionally hurt than anything," Gordon said. The spokesman released separate statements from Bobbitt and Elliott in which they reaffirmed their love for one another.

Earlier this year, a Virginia jury found Bobbitt's estranged wife, Lorena, innocent by reason of insanity for cutting off Bobbitt's penis. Surgeons reattached it.
