PASADENA : Vigil Commemorates 3 Slain Teen-Agers

May 12, 1994

Families laid flowers Sunday on the steps of Pasadena City Hall and musicians played classical music during a two-hour Mother's Day Vigil sponsored by the Coalition for a Non-Violent City.

The event, which attracted nearly 100 people, commemorated the Oct. 31 slaying of three Pasadena teen-agers, gunned down on a sidewalk as they walked home from a Halloween party. Five alleged Pasadena gang members face trial for the killings June 13 in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Since the shootings, the coalition has continued its work for gun control legislation and for programs to counter violence. A month ago, the group opened an office at 118 S. Oak Knoll Ave.

Meanwhile, more than 400 people have signed up to provide volunteer youth services, said coalition spokesman Louis Fleming. A Father's Day march, a youth employment program and an Oct. 1 daylong conference dealing with the roots of violence also are planned by the group.
