LONG BEACH — High jumpers Jeremy Fischer of Camarillo High and Arthur Lloyd of Rialto Eisenhower and hurdlers Jason Medearis of Hart and Kenny Haslip of Pasadena Muir will renew their rivalries in today's Southern Section track and field championships at Long Beach Veterans Stadium.

Fischer, the national outdoor leader in the high jump with a mark of 7 feet 4 inches, defeated Lloyd in the Arcadia Invitational (7-0 to 6-10) and Mt. San Antonio College Relays (7-3 to 7-2) last month. But he has cleared only 6-8 in winning the Mt. Carmel Invitational, Ventura County and Marmonte League championships since.

"Jeremy is one of those kids who jumps best when he has someone pushing him," Camarillo Coach Dennis Riedmiller said.

Quartz Hill's Jamaal Chase is favored in the Division I long jump.

Haslip, the defending state champion in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, has defeated Medearis in three of four races this season.
