SANTA ANA — The pilot of a Southwest Airlines jetliner on approach to John Wayne Airport late Sunday "lost sight" of the airport when he flew low over south Santa Ana, then boosted the jets when instructed by tower officials to climb higher.
Larry Berg, Federal Aviation Administration duty officer in Los Angeles who contacted John Wayne tower, said the Southwest jet was then ordered to go around for another approach about 10:20 p.m.
