PASADENA : Astronomy Club Plans Lunar Collision Party

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory Astronomy Club will host a star party Saturday to track the collision of the fragments of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 with Jupiter.

The astronomy watch party is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. in JPL's main parking lot. The event, which will include telescopes and information, is free and open to the public.

JPL will also celebrate its 50th anniversary of space exploration with a free open house Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Visitors will be able to tour such places as the Space Flights Operations Facility and the Spacecraft Assembly Facility.
