Lynn went to USC on a football scholarship but soon switched to baseball and became the first player in history to be named the American League rookie of the year and most valuable player with the Red Sox in 1975. The outfielder was traded to the Angels in 1981 and helped the club win its division title the next year. He left for Baltimore in 1985 and retired in 1991.
Lynn, 42, is living in San Diego County. He's a part-time broadcaster for ESPN and plays in the year-old Professional Athletes Golf League.
