CERRITOS : Acting Superintendent at ABC Unified Resigns

July 28, 1994|PSYCHE PASCUAL

Acting ABC Unified schools chief Ira Toibin resigned this week, adding his name to the growing list of top administrators who have departed in the past four months.

Toibin said he submitted his resignation to the school board Monday night after trustees called a special meeting to discuss his position. Toibin said he was leaving for personal reasons but refused to elaborate.

He had served as acting superintendent since early March, when the school board placed embattled Supt. Larry L. Lucas on paid leave. Attorneys for Lucas and the school district still are attempting to work out a severance agreement.

Last week, the school board hired a consultant to search for a new superintendent. Toibin, who will leave as of Sept. 1, said the search may take as long as six months.

The ABC district has also lost administrators who headed the business, fiscal services and personnel offices, as well as the administrator who oversaw middle and elementary schools. None of the positions have been filled.

Toibin, 45, has been with the district five years. He had been deputy superintendent before becoming acting superintendent.

School board members could not be reached for comment.
