July 29, 1994| Associated Press

Time is precious, but during a lifetime the average American spends a lot of it doing less than precious things. Statisticians have estimated that:

* The average American spends eight months opening junk mail.

* Six years consuming food and drink and five years waiting in line.

* Bathroom basics take seven years, while housework cleans up another four.

* Most drivers spend a total of six months waiting for red lights to change.
